About the Artist

Melissa Muehleisen has been making art since she could hold a crayon. She is an artist, a mom and engineer. As an engineer, she has presented her research around the globe, authored 6 patents and used every extra scrap of time to maintain an artistic practice.

She makes artwork that appeals to something personal inside the viewer. It may be a thought to ponder, a moment captured, an emotion or a vulnerability with which the viewer can identify.

The work is inspired by the human figure, the sciences and the outdoors. Over the last twenty years she has developed techniques of bringing texture to the surface of the painting.

She quietly maintains a portrait practice in order to keep sharpening the saw. Drawing is not like riding a bike.
